Illustration Competition

  1. This competition is free to enter.
  2. There are two age categories: ages 3 to 10 years and ages 11 to 16.
  3. The prize for the ages 3 to 10 category is a signed copy of Martin Brown’s book Lesser Spotted Animals. The prize for the ages 11 to 16 category is a 36-colour dual tip brush pens set.
  4. The competition will open on Tuesday 25th August at 12pm midday and will close on Monday 14th September at 5pm.
  5. Entrants must design, illustrate and submit a family or Buckinghamshire county crest which includes at least one animal. Crests can also be known as coat of arms or emblems. The entry may be drawn, painted or crafted on paper or on a computer programme. Notes and suggestions on designs of these will be posted on the website and social media throughout the competition.
  6. This competition is sponsored by Martin Brown(author of the Lesser Spotted Animals series and illustrator of the Horrible Histories series) who will select a winner from each category after the closing date. If your design is picked as the winner you will receive this prize. There is only one prize package and therefore can only be one winner per category
  7. No alternative prize or cash alternative is available.
  8. The competition is open to entrants from the age of 3 years to 16 years.
  9. There is no restriction on the number of entries that can be made per individual.
  10. The entry form must be completed by a parent or guardian.
  11. Entry is by completing the entry form which can be found on the Buckinghamshire Virtual History Festival website and either uploading a scanned copy or photograph (landscape) of the design. Alternatively if it has been designed on a computer programme the original may be uploaded, or entrants can deliver their entries by post to Virtual History Festival, Illustration Competition – Communities Team, The Gateway, Aylesbury, Bucks HP19 8FF.
  12. If the event organisers deem any entries inappropriate the entry will be disqualified.
  13. All entries (including photographs) must be LANDSCAPE. If you are using a mobile phone to capture the image please ensure that you turn the phone into the landscape position.
  14. A random selection of entries including the winning entry will be displayed on social media over the course of the competition, leading up to the event and during the event and fringe dates between 24 September 2020 and 10 October 2020. Only the first name and age of the entrant will be displayed.
  15. The winner in each category will be notified by email on or before Friday 11 September 2020. The winner/s will be given further details on how to collect/obtain their prize in person.
  16. If the winner does not confirm they are able to claim their prize by Monday 21 September 2020 the prize will be forfeited and a new winner will be selected.
  17. The first name, age and town of the winner will be retained. The winner will be requested to take part in the following publicity: photograph of you collecting your prize, photograph of you with your design and name to be published on the Buckinghamshire Virtual History Festival website and social media. If you have consented to the publication of your details these will be available on request. If you have not consented no details which would identify you will be published.
  18. The names, contact details and ages of all non-winning entrants will be destroyed within 3 months of the closing date.

Fancy Dress Competition

  1. This competition is free to enter.
  2. The prize available is a Family Booking for 1 adult and 2 children or 2 adults and 1 child to take part in an outdoor experience at VIRE, the multi-experience concept.
  3. Entrants must use fancy dress to emulate the clothing worn during the Victorian era (1837-1901) and submit a photo using the entry form. Examples and suggestions will be posted on the Buckinghamshire History Festival website and social media throughout the competition.
  4. This competition is a part of the Buckinghamshire Virtual History Festival fringe activities. A panel of judges made up of members of the festival organising committee will select a winner. If your entry is picked as winner you will receive this prize. There is one prize package and there will one winner.
  5. No alternative prize or cash alternative is available.
  6. The competition is open to individual entrants over the age of 2, and family or group entries.
  7. There is no restriction on the number of entries that can be made per individual or group.
  8. The entry form must be completed by a parent or guardian for entries for individuals under the age of 18 or any groups made up of entrants who are all under the age of 18.
  9. Entry is by completing the entry form which can be found on the Buckinghamshire Virtual History Festival, and uploading a scanned photograph of the entrants in fancy dress.
  10. If the event organisers deem any entry as inappropriate, the entry will be disqualified.
  11. Please ensure that all photographs submitted clearly show the historical clothing.
  12. A selection of entries including the winning entry will be displayed on social media. Only the first name and age of the entrant will be displayed.
  13. The winner(s) will be notified by email on or before 25th September 2020. And will be given further details on how to collect/obtain their prize.
  14. If the winner does not confirm they are able to claim their prize by 31st October 2020 the prize will be forfeited and a new winner will be selected.
  15. The first name, age and town of the winner will be retained. The winner will be requested to take part in the following publicity: photograph of you collecting your prize, photograph of you with your entry photograph and name to be published on the Buckinghamshire Virtual History Festival website and social media. If you have consented to the publication of your details these will be available on request. If you have not consented, no details which would identify you will be published.
  16. The names, contact details and ages of all non-winning entrants will be destroyed within 3 months of the closing date.
